據美國有線電視新聞網（CNN）17日報導，川普當選美國總統已超過一周，但他的政權交接團隊至今仍未連繫國防部和國務院等準備交接的聯邦部會，更遑論開始進行交接事宜，背後原因在於交接團隊的負責人更換，乃至成員不斷內訌，導致政權交接進程被迫延後開始。

川普交接團隊的「先遣小組」原本被預期14日就會進駐華府聯邦各部會，著手進行交接事宜，但川普臨時將交接團隊負責人由原本的新澤西州長克里斯蒂換成副總統彭斯，因此造成交接時程延宕。

在此之前，克里斯蒂已與白宮簽訂正式交接備忘錄，交接團隊主管換人之後，白宮又必須重新與彭斯簽訂，直到15日晚間才收到該份文件，但也還在等待川普送來先遣小組的名單。川普預定於17日公布司法部與國安局首批先遣小組名單，經濟與國內政策先遣小組人選將於下周公布。

國務院及國防部都表示，他們至今還未跟川普交接團隊的任何成員接觸過。在向白宮送出名單前，川普的交接團隊必須確保團隊成員，與他們即將接觸的業務沒有利益衝突，成員也都必須遵守交接行為規範。

彭斯接手後，大動作汰除交接團隊中的專業遊說人士、不符合標準者乃至曾洩漏資訊者，這也讓交接進度更加緩慢。不過在華盛頓各大遊說組織聚集的K街，有人認為該禁令僅限先遣小組，後續擔任官員者不在此限。

另據《華爾街日報》16日報導，川普長女伊凡卡的夫婿庫許納近日進入交接團隊，還將克里斯蒂的人馬踢出，他未來也可能進入白宮擔任要職，白宮幕僚長蒲博思與策略長兼資深顧問巴農便力推他進入川普核心團隊。

與交接團隊熟識的消息人士指出，35歲的庫許納正認真考慮是否擔任白宮資深顧問，或特別顧問這類職務。不過，一旦進入白宮，與川普同為地產大亨的庫許納就必須回避可能的利益衝突，將財產交付「盲目信託」。即使不擔任任何白宮職位，庫許納仍可以透過非正式管道發揮其影響力。
